January 2011 Updates

(1) Property Report
The Strategic Planning Committee and your Executive continue to examine ways in which to enhance the bowling green and clubhouse.  The Executive has adopted as first priority the completion of the fence around the green, along the Belleville Street perimeter.  In order to complete this project, the Executive is looking at fund-raising projects, including seeking sponsors (whose businesses will be advertised on the scoreboards) and other donations. If you have ideas for fund-raising or can help in any way, please let a member of your Executive know.

(2) It’s 2011 – a New Bowling and Croquet Season Coming Soon!
We hope you’re looking forward to April and the opening of the 2011 lawn bowling and croquet season.  As you know, maintenance expenses continue over the winter.  Perhaps you might consider paying your 2011 dues early as it helps with the club’s cash flow.  If so, please drop your cheque off at the clubhouse ($150 for a full regular year, $30 for social members). It helps in our record-keeping if you fill out a renewal form – they’re in the rack on the reception table at the clubhouse.  Thanks for all your support!

(3) Open House – 30 April
It’s important for us to profile our club and to encourage renewals and new memberships.  To this end, the Club will be holding its Open House on Saturday, 30 April, 2011.   Patricia Hughes has graciously accepted the role of Chair of the Open House Planning Committee.  This committee will be working over the next few weeks to develop an exciting program – details to follow – but please mark this event on your calendar now – and please consider bringing at least one friend who might like to try the games of lawn bowling and croquet!  When the program is set, we’ll be asking you to bring it to the attention of as many local groups as possible – if you have ideas on how we might promote the Open House, please give Patricia a call – 250-386-8732.

(4) Smile Card Program
As you know from earlier newsletters, the response of members who used their Smile Cards prompted Thrifty Foods to increase our fund-raising limit from $1,000 to $1,500, and we are rapidly reaching that goal because of your support in buying at Thrifty Foods using the Smile Card.  The Executive is working on a proposal to submit to Thrifty Foods for further funding this year!  So please continue to load your Smile Card, despite our reaching the current $1,500 goal soon – your participation will influence Thrifty Foods’ response to our next application!  Thank you!
